On Coupang, six functional drink SKUs are listed between 4,030 KRW (355ml) and 26,140 KRW (500ml). That is a 6.5x spread on one shelf. The Korean functional beverage market is no longer a single race. It is splitting into two: cheap, familiar energy and expensive, health-positioned hydration. What is actually on the Korean shelf right now? The current Coupang listings show the split clearly. At the low end, a 355ml postbiotic energy drink from Paldo sits at 6,000 KRW for an 18-pack, which is a bulk value play. A 355ml apple and pomelo energy drink from Hot Six is 4,030 KRW. In the middle, a 250ml citrus zero energy drink from Sprite is 12,290 KRW. At the top, a 500ml golden time booster energy drink from All Healthy is 26,140 KRW, and a 250ml zero sparkling citron drink from Vita500 is 15,600 KRW. The shelf is not competing on caffeine alone. It is competing on format, function, and price per pack. Why is the Korean functional drink market splitting now? Korea's energy drink market is mature in the classic segment. Growth is coming from functional claims: postbiotics, zero sugar, vitamins, and botanical extracts. Retailers like Coupang, GS25, CU, and Olive Young are giving more shelf space to premium functional drinks because they carry higher margins. The netback chain for a premium functional drink in Korea typically runs 35% retail margin, 20% importer-distributor margin, 12% logistics and customs, 0% tariff under the EU-Korea FTA for most non-alcoholic beverages, and 33% production and packaging. That 0% tariff is a real advantage for European producers, but the 35% retail margin means shelf price must support a premium positioning. A 2,900 KRW per stick target retail price, as seen in the data, only works if the product is differentiated enough to justify it. What does this mean for importers and producers? For importers, the opportunity is not in fighting the 4,030 KRW SKU. It is in the 15,600 to 26,140 KRW band, where consumers are buying function, not just e
